Software Defined Networks are becoming an increasingly common alternative to traditional networks based on physical platforms. However, in contrast to physical solutions, SDN platforms give a much greater freedom to select components of the entire architecture, allowing the client to become independent from the suppliers of physical equipment. In addition, the necessary physical elements do not have to be advanced, and therefore expensive, due to the fact that their functions are taken over by software platform.
Software-defined networks are designed to create security policies and assign them directly to servers or applications. These rules “wander” with servers / applications and are active regardless of the physical location of the server / application. Thanks to this, the client can definitely manage the entire infrastructure more effectively.
Virtual network solutions usually perform much better than traditional physical networks in case of distributed architectures with many locations, especially those built on the basis of equipment from different manufacturers.
